About the building
The Arbours is a modern mixed-use development in the heart of Brentwood Bay completed in 2019. The project comprises primarily one- and two-bedroom condominiums with a handful of live/work units, offering contemporary finishes such as quartz countertops, engineered flooring and in-suite laundry. Situated on West Saanich Road, the building is walking distance to village amenities, transit and waterfront paths, making it attractive for both residents and small business owners. The development was delivered with new-home warranty coverage and allows rentals and pets per current listing notes.
The Arbours stands on the site of the former Brentwood Bay United Church, which sold the property to Marker Group in 2016; BB West Developments and Marker developed the building to a design by de Hoog & Kierulf, with sales opening in fall 2017, groundbreaking in April 2018 and completion in 2019. The five-storey wood-frame building holds 30 condominiums plus four ground-floor live-work units, so 34 strata lots in all, behind a cement-fibre and stone exterior. Suites have KitchenAid appliances with gas ranges, quartz counters, heated ensuite floors and gas hookups on the balconies, and secure bike storage is provided; parking is at the rear rather than underground.
Strata fees run from about $320 a month on a 790-square-foot one-bedroom to roughly $440 on a 1,065-square-foot two-bedroom, with water included, and the strata allows cats and dogs with a number limit. The balance of the 2-5-10 warranty still runs. The Brentwood Bay shops and the Mill Bay ferry are within a few minutes' walk.
About Brentwood Bay
Brentwood Bay is the village in the District of Central Saanich on Saanich Inlet, west of the Pat Bay Highway and about twenty-five minutes from downtown Victoria. It began as Sluggett, after an early settler family, and was renamed for Brentwood in Essex. The Butchart Gardens, built in a former limestone quarry on Tod Inlet, bring more than a million visitors a year, and the Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay ferry across the inlet is the twenty-five-minute shortcut around the Malahat. Gowlland Tod Provincial Park, Tod Inlet and Coles Bay Regional Park make this one of the most scenic corners of the peninsula.
Housing is mostly detached, but a commercial village runs along West Saanich Road and Verdier Avenue with condominium and townhome buildings tucked behind it, and newer mid-density projects such as Brentwood Estates and The Meadows have added more than 240 homes near Stellys Cross Road. Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa, the marina and the Butterfly Gardens round out the amenities, and Stelly's Secondary is the local high school. Route 81 runs through to Saanichton, Sidney and Swartz Bay and Route 83 connects Brentwood to Royal Oak; most residents drive, and the Lochside Trail is a short ride east.
