About the building

Ironworks is a distinctive 5-storey mixed-use development located at 515 Chatham Street in Victoria's historic Old Town district. Completed in 2020 by Le Fevre & Company, the building is instantly recognizable by its weathering Corten steel exterior that pays homage to the site's industrial past. The development comprises 88 modern residences, primarily efficient studios and one-bedrooms, centered around a private landscaped courtyard.

Ironworks was designed by Christine Lintott Architect and built by Campbell Construction between 2018 and 2020, with interiors by Kimberly Williams; it is two wood-frame buildings of five storeys behind the weathering-steel skin, with two commercial units totalling about 4,300 square feet at street level. The 88 homes are studios and one-bedrooms of 325 to 571 square feet, with black-finish appliance packages and stacked laundry, and the project was marketed as Chapter One of a planned series of buildings along the two blocks of Chatham.

Residents have a second-floor garden terrace, secure bike storage, lockers and underground parking. The building sold out and now trades as resales. Chinatown is a block south and the Johnson Street Bridge a five-minute walk.
