About the building
The Arbutus is a modern, five-storey condominium collection in the Marigold Lands development (Central Saanich), completed in 2019. The project offers well-appointed one- and two-bedroom suites with 9' ceilings, quartz counters, stainless appliances, in-suite laundry, and secure underground parking. Residents benefit from proximity to Lochside Trail, Marigold Village amenities and nearby waterfront access; building amenities include elevator access, storage lockers and bike storage. The complex was designed with West Coast style detailing and aimed at buyers wanting low-maintenance, convenient village living.
The Arbutus was the first phase of Marigold Lands, developed by Tim Hackett's Marigold Lands Ltd. on the eight-acre former Marigold Nursery site and designed by KPL James Architects with interiors by Kimberly Williams. The five-storey wood-frame building holds 38 homes: one-bedrooms of about 537 to 608 square feet and two-bedrooms of roughly 912 to 972 square feet, with KitchenAid appliances, gas ranges, gas fireplaces, triple-glazed windows, heated ensuite floors and glass-panel showers. Homes on the quiet side look toward the water.
A 963-square-foot two-bedroom carried a strata fee of about $560 a month, the strata allows up to two dogs and two cats, EV charging infrastructure was added recently, and the balance of the 2-5-10 warranty still runs. There is paddleboard, kayak and bike storage as well as separate lockers. The Lochside Trail passes the front door, and the later Sequoia Residences at 2520 Hackett are the neighbouring phase.
About Turgoose
Turgoose is an MLS sub-area in Central Saanich on the east side of the Saanich Peninsula, named for Turgoose Point on the northwest shore of Saanichton Bay. The name comes from William Turgoose, an English-born farmer who arrived with the Cariboo gold rush and farmed more than 200 hectares here from about 1865. Listings in the sub-area sit along Ferguson Road, Lancelot Place and the streets between the highway and the bay, including the large strata community at 2600 Ferguson Road; the boundary is not published, so treat it as the shoreline side of Saanichton.
Housing is mostly detached, with strata townhomes and a small number of low-rise condominium buildings, many of them aimed at downsizers who want a quieter setting than Sidney. Saanichton Bay Park and Island View Beach Regional Park are the local waterfront, with the Lochside Trail running along the old rail line, and the shops, pub and services of Saanichton village are a few minutes west. The Pat Bay Highway is close at hand, putting the airport about five minutes away, the ferries about fifteen and downtown Victoria 25 to 30 minutes. Route 75 from Saanichton is the main transit link.
