About the building
601 Herald is a boutique collection of 27 loft-style residences located in Victoria's Design District, bordering historic Chinatown. Completed in 2011 by The Airey Group, the 5-storey building features a distinctive warehouse-inspired brick façade and a second-floor courtyard garden. The interiors offer contemporary finishes with over-height ceilings.
601 Herald was developed by The Airey Group with Durwest Construction as contractor, designed by Matrix Architecture and Planning with interiors by Evoke International Design. The wood-frame building sits on a poured-concrete foundation behind its brick facade with a torch-on roof, and is registered as strata plan EPS569 with 27 homes and two commercial strata lots fronting Government Street.
Residents have secured underground parking, a courtyard and a rooftop patio, and the strata fee covers insurance, water, garbage, management, grounds and the common facilities. The pet bylaw reported in listings allows up to three cats or three dogs with no size limit; confirm with the strata, and check the City's current short-term rental rules before assuming any suite can be rented nightly. Herald at Government is a block from Chinatown's Fan Tan Alley and two from the Johnson Street Bridge.
