About the building
Faircliff Manor is a five-storey condominium complex located at 1433 Faircliff Lane in the Fairfield West neighborhood of Victoria, BC. Built in 1971, the building contains 55 units and is perched on Moss Rock Hill, offering panoramic views of the ocean and mountains. Residents enjoy a quiet cul-de-sac setting with amenities that include a guest suite, workshop, fitness/sauna room, and a common sunroom with a BBQ terrace.
Faircliff Manor is registered as strata plan VIS28, with 55 homes on a park-like site of more than two acres on the rocky top of Moss Rock, and sources give the year as 1970 or 1971. Suites run from about 670-square-foot one-bedrooms to 840-square-foot one-bedroom-and-den plans, some convertible to two bedrooms; heating is electric baseboard and the strata fee, roughly $440 to $490 a month, covers hot water, water, building insurance, garbage, management and grounds.
The building has underground parking, bike storage and an ocean-facing sunroom off the lounge, and the strata is professionally managed with no age restriction; dogs and cats are allowed. No developer or architect surfaced in public records. Moss Rock Park itself is next door, and the Dallas Road beaches and Beacon Hill Park are a short walk down the hill.
About Fairfield West
Fairfield West is the half of Fairfield closest to Beacon Hill Park and downtown, roughly the streets around Cook Street Village, Oscar Street, Moss Street and Richardson Street. The MLS split between Fairfield West and Fairfield East is not an official boundary, so the two overlap along Moss Street and Fairfield Road. The area was Sir James Douglas's Fairfield Farm, and most of the houses went up between 1900 and 1913; today the streets hold Edwardian houses, 1960s and 1970s low-rise apartment buildings, many of which have converted to strata, and a handful of newer buildings like the 48-unit mixed-use project at 324 Cook Street.
Cook Street Village is the centre of daily life, with cafés, restaurants, a grocery store and Beacon Hill Park's 200 acres across the road. Dallas Road and the Strait are a few blocks south, the Moss Street Market runs Saturdays from spring to fall at Sir James Douglas school, and Five Corners at Moss and Fairfield Road is the smaller second village. Route 7 runs through Fairfield to downtown and UVic, and downtown is a five-minute drive or a twenty-minute walk through the park. The City's plan keeps growth here limited and focused around the two villages.
