About the building

Hillcrest Centre is a well-established 4-storey residential building in the Hillside/Quadra neighbourhood. Built in 1981, the strata complex consists of 31 units featuring balconies, carport parking, and shared laundry facilities. Its central location offers residents high walkability to Quadra Village, local parks, and direct transit routes to downtown Victoria and UVic.

Hillcrest Centre is registered as strata plan VIS1117, a stucco building on a poured-concrete foundation with a tar-and-gravel roof, an elevator and storage, and strata records give the year as 1982 rather than 1981. An 800-square-foot two-bedroom with a long balcony off the primary bedroom carried a strata fee of about $485 a month, covering building insurance, the caretaker, hot water, water, garbage, management and grounds; heating is electric baseboard and parking for that suite was a carport stall rather than an underground one.

The strata allows cats, dogs and aquariums with a number limit and has no age restriction. Quadra Village is a few minutes' walk, with Mayfair and the Douglas Street buses close by.

About Hillside

Hillside is the MLS name for Victoria's Hillside-Quadra neighbourhood, the area between Tolmie Avenue, Blanshard Street, Bay Street and Cook Street. Despite the name, Hillside Shopping Centre sits just east of the line in Oaklands and Mayfair Shopping Centre is just west in Burnside; both are within walking distance, which is why listings often mention them. The neighbourhood was farmland until the end of the nineteenth century and is still mostly ground-oriented housing, with apartment and condominium buildings concentrated along Quadra Street, Hillside Avenue and Blanshard.

Quadra Village, around Quadra and Hillside, is the commercial heart, with grocery stores, cafés and restaurants, and the City's plan designates it a large urban village. Topaz Park is the citywide sports park, Summit Park protects a hilltop Garry oak meadow with views over the city, and there are about 43 acres of parkland in total. Quadra Elementary, Cloverdale Traditional and S.J. Willis are the schools. Routes 4, 6 and 9 run along Hillside, Quadra and Cook to downtown, Royal Oak and UVic, downtown is a ten-minute ride, and the airport is about half an hour. The City expects mixed-income redevelopment of the Quadra West sites, including Evergreen Terrace and the former Blanshard School.
