About the building
The Chelsea is an award-winning 6-storey steel and concrete residence located at 999 Burdett Avenue, nestled on a quiet tree-lined street between Fairfield and Downtown Victoria. Completed in 2008 by Concert Properties, the building features 66 luxury homes characterized by large open-concept floor plans, gourmet kitchens with quartz countertops, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Residents enjoy premium boutique-style amenities including a private landscaped courtyard, a residents' lounge, a fitness room, and a location steps from Christ Church Cathedral and the Inner Harbour.
The Chelsea was designed by dys architecture for Concert Properties, a concrete building with brick facing, an elevator and a resident caretaker. The site held an 1890 brick mansion that burned in 1918, and from 1939 the Sisters of St. Ann's Mount St. Mary Hospital; the original brick and stone wall, the wrought-iron fences and a walnut tree were kept when Concert built here, with presales in late 2006 and occupancy in mid-2008. It won the Victoria Real Estate Board's Commercial Building Award for best condominium in November 2009, and Concert took gold at that year's CARE Awards for the project's sales centre and marketing. Strata records file the address under Fairfield rather than downtown.
Suites have hardwood in the main rooms, quartz counters and electric fireplaces, and ground-floor homes open onto private courtyards. Two-bedroom-and-den suites run about 1,070 to 1,550 square feet, with penthouses to roughly 1,760. The building has a clubhouse and recreation room, bike storage and secure underground parking, and the strata fee covers building insurance, caretaker, garbage and management; two pets are allowed. Cook Street Village and Dallas Road are a short walk, with scores of 97 for walking and 91 for transit.
