About the building
The Hudson is the 1921 Hudson's Bay Company department store at Douglas and Fisgard, converted into 152 strata homes by Townline and completed in 2010. The Georgian-style building, designed by Toronto architects Burke, Horwood and White, is listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places. The Bay moved out in 2003, Townline bought the site in 2006, and the restoration launched the wider Hudson District that now surrounds it. Homes range from single-level suites to two-storey lofts, many with over-height ceilings, and the building uses geothermal heating and cooling.
Shared amenities include a rooftop patio, barbecue area, guest suite, bike storage, storage lockers and underground parking, with city and water views from the upper levels. The Victoria Public Market has occupied the ground floor since 2013, so groceries, bakeries and food stalls are an elevator ride away, and Douglas Street, downtown's main transit corridor, runs along the west side of the building. The residential entrance is on Fisgard Street; the strata plan is EPS254.
